Cape Verde is located in Verde Islands in the North Atlantic, and its east tip is more than 500 km away from Cape Verde (Senegal), the westernmost point of the African continent. It is the transportation hub between Europe, South America and South Africa, including 15 islands like St. Anthony, Saar, Boa Vesta, Fugu and Santiago etc,and is divided into two groups of islands of the Windward Islands in the north and the Leeward Islands in the south. Its national language is Creole.

Although Cape Verde lacks natural resources, it has become a comfortable country in Africa because of its small population, political stability and flourishing tourism. The quality of life is among the best in Africa. In addition to tourism, the main sources of income include immigration remittances, agriculture and so on.

Cape Verde's biggest trading partner is Portugal, and other trading partners incldue the European Union, the United States, Brazil and China. On July 23, 2008 Cape Verde officially joined the WTO.
